Functional fabric sourcing for defined end uses

RootReach Global helps overseas buyers source functional woven and laminated fabrics from Shengze, Jiangsu. We organize supplier enquiries around construction, finish, performance and application. We are a sourcing and trading business, not the manufacturer.

PRODUCT SCOPE

Choose a fabric for your sourcing enquiry

Start with the fabric family on your brief or sample label. The names below describe enquiry categories, not guaranteed performance or stock. Each link opens an email with questions specific to that construction.

Nylon Taslan outdoor fabric

Specify fibre content, construction, finish, colour, hand feel and the performance tests required for the end use.

Request nylon taslan outdoor fabric

Not sure which fabric you need? Send the end use, a reference photo or swatch, approximate quantity and destination. Mark unknown specifications as “to be confirmed”; a fabric name or photograph alone does not establish its suitability.

REQUEST FOR QUOTATION

Information to include in a fabric enquiry

  • Fibre composition, yarn count or denier, construction and usable width.
  • Finished weight, colour reference, coating, lamination and other finishes.
  • Intended application and the test method and target for each required property.
  • Quantity for each colour, roll and packing requirements, and destination.
  • A physical swatch or approved reference sample when colour or hand feel matters.

Waterproof, breathability, colourfastness and other performance figures must name the test method and target. Availability, MOQ, samples, certifications, lead time and commercial terms are confirmed for each supplier and order.

ORDER SCOPE BEFORE PRICE

Fabric MOQ: existing specification or custom development?

There is no universal minimum order quantity confirmed for these fabric categories. Ask for the minimum per colour and total order against your exact construction and finish. Separate your sample request from the intended bulk quantity.

Existing fabric proposal

Ask for the exact construction, finish, colour reference and lot. Request confirmation of the quantity available for your order and whether a repeat order can match the approved reference. A catalogue image is not a stock confirmation.

Custom colour or construction

List which features must match and which alternatives you will consider. Ask for development steps, colour or sample approval points, separate charges, minimum quantities and the conditions that start the quoted production time.

Trial order before bulk

State the trial quantity and intended evaluation separately from any estimated future volume. Ask whether the proposed trial uses the same specification and process as the bulk offer, and record differences before approving it.

Request a clear supplier response

“Please quote our requested quantity per colour. State the minimum quantity and unit, identify any specification deviation, and separate sample, development and testing charges. Confirm whether this is an existing-lot offer or a new production proposal. If the requested quantity cannot be quoted, show alternatives separately for our review.”

These are procurement questions, not supplier stock, MOQ or delivery commitments. Compare the supplier response with the sample and written specification. RootReach coordinates the enquiry; product-specific terms require confirmation.

FROM REFERENCE TO WRITTEN BRIEF

Confirm the sample. Then compare the quote.

You can start with an application and a reference swatch. Leave unknown values marked “to be confirmed”. A photograph is a useful starting point, but it does not establish the fabric specification.

01 · Identify the reference

Give each swatch a reference and revision. State the intended use, face and reverse sides, colour reference and what you want to match or change.

02 · Agree measurable requirements

Record composition, construction, finished weight, usable width and tolerances. For coated or laminated fabric, describe each layer and the finish.

03 · Separate targets from results

List the test method, target and any conditioning or wash requirements. Ask which results apply to the proposed sample; do not treat a requested target as a passed test.

04 · Record the approval scope

Note what has been approved and what remains open. Confirm the written order specification, inspection scope and acceptance criteria before proceeding.

Check these items on every supplier quotation

Same specification
Use the same sample revision, composition, weight, usable width, coating or layer structure and tolerances. List every proposed alternative explicitly.
Price basis
State currency and unit: per linear metre, yard or kilogram. Do not compare unit prices without checking the width and weight basis.
Colour and quantity
Separate the quantity and any minimum order requirement for each colour. Identify sampling, colour-development or other charges separately.
Testing and packing
Clarify which tests, reports, roll lengths, packing and inspection activities are included and which cost extra.
Delivery basis
Specify the named place and trade term, quotation validity, payment terms and proposed lead time with its starting condition. Confirm who pays freight, duties and taxes.

This is a buyer preparation checklist, not a product test report. Specifications, sample availability, costs and order terms remain subject to written supplier confirmation.

ILLUSTRATIVE BUYER EXAMPLE

When two fabric prices are not comparable

Suppose a buyer requests a coated Oxford fabric against one approved swatch, with a specified usable width, finished weight, colour and quantity. One quotation prices the requested width per linear metre. Another prices a narrower, lighter fabric per yard. The lower number is not yet the lower price for the same requirement.

Ask both suppliers
Confirm the proposed construction, usable width, finished weight, coating, colour reference, minimum quantity per colour, price unit and included testing or packing. Put every difference from the buyer brief in a separate deviation list.
Normalize the quote
Convert yards and metres to one unit, then compare the full specification and order scope. A unit conversion does not make different widths, weights or finishes equivalent.
Before approval
Check the sample reference, agreed tolerances, test methods and acceptance criteria. Record the final specification and commercial terms in writing.

This is a fictional comparison exercise, not a supplier offer or evidence that either specification is available. RootReach coordinates enquiries; each proposed fabric and quotation requires supplier confirmation.

SOURCING ROLE

Clear specifications before price comparison

We turn your application and sample into a written brief, collect comparable supplier responses and coordinate sampling. Inspection, testing and export support can be included when the scope and acceptance criteria are agreed.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Functional fabric sourcing FAQ

What is the minimum order quantity for functional fabric sourcing?

There is no single confirmed MOQ for every fabric on this page. Send the fabric reference, requested finish, quantity per colour and destination. Ask the supplier to state the minimum for each colour and for the total order, and whether the offer concerns an existing fabric or a new production run. Sample availability and small-order terms need separate confirmation.

Should I request an existing fabric or a custom-developed fabric?

Describe what must match your reference and what may change. For an existing fabric, ask for the exact specification, colour, lot and available quantity. For a custom request, ask for the proposed development steps, sample approval points, separate charges and conditions for starting production. Neither route confirms suitability without reviewing the proposed sample and requirements.

What information should a functional fabric enquiry include?

Send the fibre composition, denier or construction, finished weight, usable width, colour reference, coating or lamination, intended application, quantity and destination. A physical swatch is helpful when colour or hand feel matters.

How should waterproof or breathability requirements be specified?

Name the test method and target value for each required property. RootReach asks the selected supplier to confirm the specification, sample, testing scope and commercial terms for the individual enquiry.

Can I start a fabric enquiry without a complete technical specification?

Yes. Send your intended use, reference photos or swatch, estimated quantity and destination. Mark unknown values as to be confirmed rather than guessing. A photo alone does not confirm composition, weight, finish or performance; these need supplier clarification and, where agreed, sample testing.

What should I confirm before approving a fabric sample?

Record the sample reference and revision, composition, finished weight, usable width, colour reference, hand feel, coating or layer structure, and agreed tolerances. Record any required test method, target, conditioning or wash conditions and results separately. Sample approval does not by itself establish bulk production conformity; agree the order specification and acceptance checks in writing.

Can I compare two functional fabric quotes when the width, weight or price unit differs?

Not by unit price alone. First align the usable width, finished weight, construction, coating or lamination, colour quantity, testing and packing scope. Convert metre and yard prices to the same unit, then ask each supplier to identify any deviation from the requested specification. Confirm the final comparison against samples and a written order specification.

SAMPLE APPROVAL & SUPPORTING EVIDENCE

How should a functional fabric sample be evaluated?

Link the swatch to its composition, weight, usable width, construction and finish. State the intended use and requested performance, test method and acceptance threshold before comparing sample results.

What to request from the supplier

Ask which fabric reference, finish and sample each test result covers. Keep colour approval separate from functional performance approval; a similar appearance does not prove the same performance.

Buyer guidance from RootReach. This is not a supplier test result, certification or a guarantee of suitability. Confirm the evidence and acceptance criteria for the individual item.
