BUYER GUIDE · PET FOOD & CAT LITTER

Pet food & cat litter: quotation checklist

Prepare a complete pet food & cat litter sourcing brief, identify missing information and download an RFQ template.

SPECIFICATION FIRST

What information is needed for a pet food & cat litter quotation?

Product and intended use
Pet food: species, life stage and food or treat format. Cat litter: material reference, granule size and requested characteristics.
Specification and sample
Food: requested ingredient information, analytical specification and pack size. Litter: sample reference, fragrance, dust and clumping checks to agree.
Destination and documents
Destination country, label language and buyer or importer document requirements; confirm the exact product and producer covered.
Order and packing
Quantity, net weight per pack, retail or bulk format, lot marking, storage information and sample acceptance criteria.

The categories describe buyer enquiry scopes, not a verified supplier catalogue or available stock. Exact models, technical evidence, origin, condition, compatibility and commercial terms require item-level confirmation.

CONTROL THE OPEN QUESTIONS

Prepare the brief before asking for a final price

  1. Use one line per product or configuration. Give photographs, drawings and samples matching line IDs and revisions.
  2. Separate agreed requirements from missing information. Ask the supplier to identify substitutions explicitly.
  3. Use the pet food & cat litter checklist above to define the sample and acceptance scope. Do not supply guessed specifications.
  4. State the destination and named delivery place. Record the proposed trade term, payment terms, quotation validity and lead-time starting condition.
  5. Resolve technical and commercial deviations in writing before approving a sample or purchase order.

Illustrative review — not an actual supplier quotation

Compare food offers only against the same species, format, requested composition and pack weight; review litter separately. If Offer A matches the brief but Offer B proposes a different configuration, first label the difference. Request a revised or clearly separate alternative offer; neither a cheaper unit price nor a similar image resolves that discrepancy.

SAMPLE APPROVAL & SUPPORTING EVIDENCE

Can pet food and cat litter use the same purchasing brief?

Use separate product lines and acceptance criteria. Pet food needs species, life stage, format, ingredient and analytical requirements. Cat litter needs material, granule and sample-check requirements. Both need destination, pack weight, quantity and document review.

What to request from the supplier

Ask the importer to identify destination requirements, then request product- and producer-specific documents for review. Do not infer market eligibility, nutritional suitability, safety or performance from packaging or supplier descriptions alone.
